PixQR

PixQR Help Centre

Guides for creating, testing, managing and deploying market-leading QR codes.

Quick Start

How do I create my first QR code?
  1. Open Generator.
  2. Enter a QR name, choose Static or Dynamic, then pick a QR type such as Website, Email, VCard or WiFi.
  3. Enter the destination or content fields for that QR type.
  4. Click Generate once. After that, design changes update live.
  5. Adjust colours, shape, error correction, logo, background, frame and safety settings.
  6. Check the scanability and print safety scores.
  7. Save the QR, download SVG/PNG, or save the design JSON for reuse.
When should I use Static vs Dynamic?

Use Static when the final QR content will never change and no redirect tracking is needed. Use Dynamic when you want an editable PixQR redirect, scan events, campaign control, destination changes or batch campaign management. Dynamic QR codes are normally better for marketing, packaging, events and long-running campaigns.

What should I test before printing?

Test on iPhone and Android, under poor lighting, from the expected distance, on the intended surface and at the final printed size. Test the exact exported file, not only the browser preview.

QR Types and Content

Website and PDF

Use full HTTPS links. For PDFs, host the file on a reliable HTTPS URL. Dynamic mode is recommended so the document can be replaced without reprinting.

Email

Email QR codes use mailto: content with optional subject and body. Keep body text short because long QR content increases density.

Phone and SMS

Phone uses tel:. SMS uses SMSTO:number:message. Always test internationally formatted numbers.

WiFi

WiFi QR codes encode network name, encryption and password. Avoid printing private WiFi credentials in public spaces.

VCard

VCard QR codes can hold name, company, phone, email and website. Keep fields concise for better readability.

Location and Event

Location uses geo coordinates. Event QR codes generate calendar-style content. Test on target devices because calendar support varies.

Social, App, Video, Menu, MP3 and Coupon

These usually work best as Dynamic URLs so landing pages, store links, video URLs, menu pages, audio files or offers can be changed later.

Crypto Wallet

Use the correct network URI and wallet address. Test with small amounts and clearly label the currency/network to avoid irreversible mistakes.

Market-Leading QR Design

What makes a QR code look premium?

Premium QR codes use deliberate contrast, brand-consistent colours, clean finder eyes, balanced module shapes, controlled spacing, a well-sized logo, and a background that supports rather than fights scanability. Avoid random decoration that weakens the data pattern.

How should I choose colours?

Keep modules darker than the background. High contrast is the safest choice. Use accent colours for eyes, timing rails, logo borders or gradients, but keep the core modules readable.

How big can the centre logo be?

Keep logos conservative. Around 15-20% of the QR area is usually safer. Use high error correction and a logo backing plate. If the safety score drops, reduce logo size or increase error correction.

How do backgrounds work?

Backgrounds sit behind the QR artwork. Use background opacity, safety wash and QR readability plate controls to keep the artwork attractive while preserving scan reliability. Busy backgrounds usually need a stronger wash or plate.

When should I force dense QR versions?

Forced versions such as v10 or v20 create fuller-looking QR codes, but they can reduce scan margin if printed too small. Use forced density for large-format premium designs, not tiny labels.

How do I reuse a design?

After creating a design, save it as a unique design JSON name with a description. Saved designs can be loaded later and used in batch uploads through the optional design column.

Scanability and Print Safety

Error correction

Higher error correction improves tolerance for logos, dirt, damage and decorative styling. Use High for branded, printed or logo-based QR codes.

Quiet zone

The margin around the QR is critical. Too little quiet zone makes scanners confuse surrounding artwork with data modules.

Print size

Small prints need simple high-contrast QR codes. Dense or decorative QR codes need larger physical size.

Surface

Gloss, metal, fabric and curved packaging can reduce readability. Test on the final material.

Distance

Longer scan distances require larger codes, strong contrast and simpler module styling.

Safety scores

Scores are guidance, not a guarantee. Always run real device tests before launch.

Batch QR Processing

How do I create a batch?

Save one or more designs first, then upload an Excel, ODS, CSV, TSV, TXT or JSON sheet on Batch QR Import. Required columns are name and destination_url. Optional columns are mode, slug and design.

Can each row use a different design?

Yes. Put the saved design name or id in the design column. After validation, you can also change the row design from the preview table before running the batch.

What does the ZIP contain?

The ZIP contains SVG or PNG QR files plus a manifest CSV showing names, ids, modes, original content and generated dynamic links.

Can I see previous runs?

Yes. The batch page shows recent batch runs, source file name, counts, status, export format and manifest preview.

Dashboard and Account

Managing QR codes

Use My QR Codes to edit names, status and destinations, download saved QR files, or delete a QR after password confirmation.

Dynamic destination changes

Dynamic QR destinations can be changed after printing. Every sensitive change should create an audit log.

Account security

Use Account Settings to change password and email. Email verification is tokenised and queued through the mail system.

GDPR preferences

Account Settings includes product updates, security alerts, analytics consent and required service processing preferences.

Plans and billing

Plan changes are requested from Account Settings and queued for payment/provider confirmation when Stripe or PayPal is connected.

Privacy requests

Use Privacy Request for access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection or consent withdrawal requests.

API and Real-Time QR Codes

What will the API be used for?

The API will support secure creation, updating, inspection and analytics for dynamic QR codes. It should use scoped API keys, hashed secrets, rate limits, audit logs and workspace isolation.

Can I update QR destinations in real time?

This is the goal for dynamic QR API endpoints. Destination updates must be authorised, validated and logged, and must never accept arbitrary query parameters as final redirect targets.

Where is API information?

See the API page for current internal endpoints and planned public API controls.
